On page 8 (L to R), seated second and third at a table are Hal Totten and
Walter. On page 12 is a picture of where we used to live from about
1928 to 1934. The pond in the front yard is the one that my sister
Marilyn fell into and was pulled out by one of our dogs. I think
the dog's name was Smoky, or maybe it was Pronto. Those are the only
names I remember, and perhaps the story is apochryphal. There also
was the story that an airplane crashed into one of the towers (The station
at that time had an air field right across the street), and some bodies
were put on our back porch. Donna wouldn't remember it because she
wasn't born yet, and I hear that Gean isn't remembering much these days.
I have a vague recollection of a Ford Trimotor landing at that field
and my going up for a ride, but I was very young--had to be less than 5--so
who knows if it really happened.
On page 23 you'll find Marian and Jim Jordon
who were well known as Fibber McGee and Molly. I remember hearing
that they visited us at the station.
On page 26 you'll find Hal Totten who was
a well-known sportscaster of the day. He gave my father his masonic
ring when he joined the masons, a ring that my father gave me when I joined.
My mother, Lucy and I visited Hal in Fort Myers, where he lived alone
in a condo and was getting old. I showed him the ring, and he remembered
it all.
